Eileen Weber, Briarcliff HS ’36 and lifelong Briarcliff resident, died on December 30 2012 at the age of 94.
During her time at BHS, she was captain of the field hockey team, forward on the basketball team, head cheerleader, and participated in student council.
Informally known as Briarcliff’s historian, in 1974 she helped found and and was a past president of The Briarcliff Manor-Scarborough Historical Society. The society’s new home, The Eileen O’Connor Weber Historical Center on the lower level of the Briarcliff Library, carries on her name.
“Eileen, by example, showed us all how to live life to the fullest every day, regardless of how things were going … one did not just know Eileen … one experienced Eileen,” said Townsend Lathrop, a very close family friend of Eileen.
In 1994, she created the Eileen O’Connor Weber Scholarship Fund, sponsored by BMSHS in her name, which has awarded a scholarship to a BHS graduate every year. Application forms for this year’s scholarship will be available in the guidance office.
She was inducted to the Briarcliff High School Hall of Fame by the BMEF, where her portrait is still visible to students as they enter the school every day.
Briarcliff owes her a great debt for her innumerable contributions to the community.
