Jack and Caroline, our state competitors

For any sophomores, juniors, or seniors sleeping under rocks, and to the freshman who were too busy graduating middle school, you are all in the presence of two New York State Track and Field Championship competitors: Caroline Pennacchio and Jack Zimmerman. Current senior Pennacchio and junior Zimmerman both qualified during the spring track season to compete in the championship, which occurred on June 12. Zimmerman, who also has set three school records in this season alone, finished in 12th place overall in the DII shot put state competition with a throw of 42’ 5.75”. Pennacchio, who has set five individual and three relay school records this past track season, became the second-ever BHS track and field athlete to finish 1st in a state championship. In DII 3,000-meter race, she closed a gap of more than 15 seconds in the final lap, finishing with a time of 10:13.01. Pennacchio also qualified for All-State honors during last year’s cross-country season and set more records in the winter season. In an interview with the Daily Voice, Coach Sean Ryan commended both athletes, saying, “Caroline and Jack are two of the hardest workers we have ever coached. They have proven many times how hard work drives results.” Everyone at BHS is extremely proud of our state competing athletes and look forward to the success that they will have in the upcoming winter and spring seasons.
