This year, Briarcliff High School is introducing a fifth honor society: Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. Rho Kappa joins the New York State Math Honor Society,
Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Honor Society for Dance Arts, National Art Honor Society, and National Honor Society chapters at BHS.
The mission statement of the organization is to recognize students who excel in social studies. Through this recognition, students are also provided with other chances toengage in social studies in the community. Rho Kappa, advised by Mrs. Gualtiere, introduces a way for students with a knack for studying history government to have a community of peers who are equally as passionate about social studies.
To apply for membership, students must have a minimum grade of 90 percent in each social studies class and an unweighted GPA of 85 percent. Students must also demonstrate engagement in the community and drive for change in community service activities above and beyond the required eight hours, and thus portraying. The deadline to apply for Rho Kappa membership was November 14.
