Spanish Club Sponsors a Bolivian Girl

By Annie Dineen
Volume 69, Issue III

Through the organization “Save the Children” Mrs. Manchisi and the Spanish club are sponsoring Karina, 14-year-old girl from Bolivia. Through this sponsorship, Karina can have access to education and medical care. The club chose Karina because she has struggled to find a sponsor for many years, and unfortunately, she is not the only one who has been waiting. There is still a large number of children in Bolivia and other impoverished countries seeking help from anyone who can provide it. “Save the Children” is an organization with a reputation of giving a high percentage of the donations to the children. This helps students from around the world to interact with and help children in impoverished countries seeking education and medical care. The Spanish Club has been interacting with Karina through email.

“Anyone can donate. You can sponsor a child on a monthly basis, or you can give a one-time gift” says Mrs. Manchisi, who believes the goal of this project is to help those affected by poverty in the Spanish speaking world. The Spanish club has had bake sales in the past to collect donations and is continuing to brainstorm new fundraising ideas. All of the proceeds will go to “Save the Children” so make sure you go out and pick up a couple of sweets during the next fundraiser.
