By Alyssa Nadler Volume 67, Issue II When the Briarcliff community thinks of winter sports, they tend to leave out one very important team: The CSI Chairambes. It is a group of Jewish kids playing basketball for our local temple. They travel for their games and have been doing very well. They are a group of proud players who work hard to make their team … Continue reading The CSI Chairambes
Every March, sports fans and people across the country strive to make the perfect bracket. This year, one of the wealthiest men in America, Warren Buffett, said that he would give anyone who could make a perfect bracket one billion dollars. Despite the life-changing money that one could earn for doing so, no one was able to make the perfect bracket. In fact, after the first twenty-five games (of 63 in the tourney) only three of the 11 million brackets created on ESPN remained flawless, to put into perspective how many upsets occurred early on. VBB Takes on Croton
The 2013-2014 season has been one of transition for the boys’ varsity basketball team. After losing several senior leaders from the previous season, the varsity team has had a much younger squad. Despite their youth, the 2013-2014 season has been an incredibly successful one. The team has shown an impeccable ability to keep games close. Whether it be their heartbreaking 44-42 loss to Croton or their thrilling overtime win against Westlake, it is clear that this team is used to high pressure, late-game scenarios. This experience will prove vital as the team marches on towards the playoffs. The season came to a close with a loss to Irvington in the section quarter finals. Continue reading “Winter Sports Recap”

Briarcliff took on Pleasantville on Tuesday, in what was no disappointment to the long-lasting rivalry between the two teams. Briarcliff was unable to bring the defense or offense in the first quarter. The Bears gave the Panthers’ above-average shooters looks and they were taking advantage, as Pleasantville jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter. Briarcliff has had to play from behind a lot this season, and, again, they had to answer to an early deficit. Continue reading “Briarcliff shows resilience, overcoming deficit to beat Pleasantville”

Our Briarcliff Bears took on the Horace Greeley (Chappaqua) Quakers on Wednesday, December 11th, marking Briarcliff’s first game against a team in its league. Briarcliff started out a bit sluggish, trailing 16-11 after the first quarter. After asking coach Moffet about his team’s slow start, he said, “We started out slow. We were down 14-7 at the very start.” Briarcliff shot just 38% from the floor in the first quarter, which was a big reason why they fell behind, along with a lack of defense.
